Ryco 24.7 V8 ute Championship

Round 2 Hampton Downs - 31 Jan thru 02 Feb 2020

I was really looking forward to this race weekend even though I'd never even been round the track before but stoked to have both Pam and Casey with me in support for the weekend.

As usual the Friday consisted of two practice sessions and just like Pukekohe in round one I spun the Falcon at high speed. This was in the very fast turn 1 corner. Again limit found lol.

Onto Saturday and I was wrapt to turn in some good laps without any issues an even managed to qualify in 13th which wasn't last yay! My best lap time only 4 secs slower than the top guns :) My Laps Link

So next it was onto the start grid for race one. Off the line and don't stall it, don't stall it. Got away nicely then a bit of speedway evasive driving to miss the stalled rocketship of Glen Collinson. He raced back thru the field to pick up a well earned 7th while we retained our 13th place finish. Very pleased to not drop further back considering my inexperience. My Laps Link

Sunday consisted of two races, the first a reverse grid of the top ten from yesterday's race and the last race with grids sorted by total points over the weekend.

After another good start and a few good dices thru the 12 lap race we were absolutely stoked to get our first top 10 finish. A huge result for us! My Laps Link

Grids for the final race are determined by finishing points from the previous two races. This saw us leaving from grid 11 which was a nice surprise. This was probably the race which produced the most pressure with challenges coming from Shaggy, Kroefy and Smokey. Quite intense at times but we came home ahead of these guys in 11th and to our surprise a good points haul which now has our 811 V8 Ute holding 11th overall in the Championship. Plus we are currently 3rd overall in the challenge for the Ford BF Trophy. My Laps Link

I gotta mention here the great camaraderie throughout all the pit bays and teams plus we are all really enjoying being a part of the V8 Ute Championship. Thanks goes out to Paul Manuell's crew for their tips and help over the weekend and we now look forward to Round 3 at Manfield on 14-16 Feb. Got a bit of panel bashing to sort before then but really looking forward to the next challenge of another track I've never been around. Gotta acknowledge the team at Ryco 24.7 for their support of the Ryco 24.7 V8 Utes Championship, fantastic work team. Plus thanks heaps to Chris Dillon for the awesome camera work throughout the championship. Last but definately not least thanks heaps to Lyn and Kevy Moore for letting us loose in their raceshop and their presidential suite in Tauranga.
Until Manfield ... Cheers from Flash.
