Blenheim's Eastern States Speedway, 14 Apr 2018 - Harvest Nationals
Not originally planned for us this meeting but with a car that finally starts performing as it should we decided why not!
We surprised a few when we turned up cos many thought our season was already done and dusted.
Today we had the pleasure of two support partners joining Casey and I. Blair from Canterbury Powder Coaters and Daniel from DJ Parkyn Painting & Decorating.
They both had a blast and it was great to finally put our engine woes behind us.
First heat off grid 3 and we managed to get past both the Carey brothers but Trevor Elliott got by us to take the lead. 2nd was a pleasing result though for our first heat and we had nailed that set-up just right.
Second heat and we started from grid 1 beside Trevor. He got a good start but I managed to regain the lead in the first lap passing him in turn4. However entering turn one in the
lead for the second lap, the R/R bearing carrier rotated in the suspension raising that rear corner of the car and moving the diff forwards. I pressed on and still managed to
complete the race and hold off Ian Burson to take another 2nd. But not before a considerable amount of brake damage was being done. And by the time I'd wreaked yet another clutch
and then
got pushed back to our pit bay, the damn brake system in that corner of the car burst into flames!
The team did a great job carrying out running repairs and although we never got a chance to alter any suspension set-up the car was also really good during heat three.
We only finshed 4th in that heat from our grid 5 start but I think with a few more laps we would have advanced another spot.
We were all very pleased to know that we had done enough to get 2nd equal
on points with Ian which is a fantastic result. We lost the coin toss but hey we were still really stoked that the car was bloody quick!
Wanna thank Eastern States Speedway and especially the track team because that had to be the best conditions I have raced on at Blenheim.
So thats it for the season and now it's time for total dismantling, inspecting and updating of the entire car and engine. Gonna be a busy off-season.
Cheers for now ... Flash
